History

History of Baden.

In the early 19th century, Baden bei Wien developed into an "imperial summer residence" when the Habsburg court under Emperor Franz I spent every summer here. At home musical soirees, the music-loving emperor was also allowed to play in a string quartet - but only on the second violin, as the saying goes. The year 1828 brough Franz Schubert to Baden. Fugue in E minor, D952 for four hands was written in just one night with the support of his friend Franz Lachner in the former inn "Zum Schwarzen Adler". At that time, Johann Strauss' father and Josef Lanner also often played in the "Schwarzer Adler" or in the Redoutensaal, sometimes on the Hauswiese Inn at the entrance to the Helenental.
